Saturday was the Evergreen Afghan Hound Club trial at Argus. We have been having a couple weeks of fog. It has been so erie. Like the sun never even comes out at all. But Saturday it was finally starting to lift a little and although it was still chilly, it wasn’t that damp, cold erie chill.
The standard course was so easy. There was no challenge to it at all. But of course we managed to earn a refusal at the tunnel. Dang. The rest of the run was just fine. I even got brave and instead of managing the dogwalk like I usually do (slowing way down and yelling “wait, wait, wait”), I ran it out just to see what she would do. She stuck her contact beautifully. So not a total waste of a run.
I posted the jww course. Because on my facebook, someone who was competing there said it was “uncomplicated”. Ha! I guess if you have long legs and run fast, maybe. But those two tunnels were way closer together than they look in the course map and quite a few dogs took the wrong tunnel.
Actually, it turned out to be so much fun to run. Hannah ran perfectly. I tried to insert a front cross between 16 & 17 and it did not happen. I think it turned into a rear cross, I don’t know, at that point Hannah was booking and I was just trying to keep up.
Also need to report on league. Really starting out great this year, which is weird. We have had two perfect standard runs. The first week we did okay on the game and this past Friday we got the highest score possible. Finally, when I decided not to stress out over league it starts to come together. Took Tally the other night. It is a very challenging environment even for older dogs, but for Tally it was all just plain fun. The pup continues to amaze me.
