1st of all, the Belgian Tervuran trial in Graham. So much fun. I had to try it, just to see how he would do. Outside. 4H Horse show on one side. Some kind of push cart racing on the other side. A huge kiddie party with a giant water fight in the middle. And a wedding with Rap music blaring. And on the front side, a very busy 4 lane highway. Holy moly. Tally did not care. Not one little bit. If there is agility to be done, that trumps everything. His sister Rickki was there. Anyway, I had very little expectations for our first Open JWW. I mean, really, was I asking too much? No, I guess not. The first 12 jumps and the weaves…. perfect. Just perfect. Then he lost his beat and knocked the last 3-4 bars. But I was so so pleased. What teamwork! Ack. The dog is freaking amazing. Novice standard was, well, very much a hot mess. But a hot mess that was a Q. Yee Ha! AND the best part of the whole day: A 17.25″ measurement by Mr. Robin. Mr. was so patient and easy with Tally who was not sure at all about being measured. One more and I won’t have to worry about that with him again. At this point not worried about USDAA, because if he measures over 18″ I just won’t do any more USDAA. Its not like I really need it anyway. Tyler is back in the property management business. They have been after him to come back for a while and then he got an offer he couldn’t refuse. Kind of funny, he has been working in a “cold” food warehouse as a team lead and is having a hard time adjusting to the warmth of the real world. I am so very proud of him. My new job is very… interesting. I am learning. A LOT. Today, one of the other admin guys (who is at the very top level and probably makes over 2X what I do) pulled me aside and said I was a threat to his job. I am like what the heck? I really was kind of at a loss. I mean what was I supposed to say. I tried to remain calm, while inside I was screaming at him. I asked him, so what is it I can do to help you? Because that is really all I know to do, if someone asks me for help, I do it. If that is a threat to him, well sorry but that is the way I do my job. Sigh. I am not a political person. I just want everyone to be happy.
So the big thing this weekend was a family reunion at Suncadia. Suncadia is a fancy pants golf resort just over the mountains. The “cabin” we rented was huge, and fancy. And didn’t take pets. Insert sad face. I was so freaked out about leaving Hannah. Have I mentioned she is crazy? She is. I have not left her with anyone besides our family – there is always someone here at the house, but this time, the whole family was going and there was no one. So I contacted a pet sitter. When she came for the pre-visit, Hannah was crazy, but seemed to like her. Tally knew at once something was up and was cautious. I am not really surprised, he picks up on emotions so easily, and he knew for one that I was freaking out about the whole situation. Anyway, I was on pins and needles over at Suncadia until the pet sitter texted me and told me the dogs were doing fine.
It was a bittersweet weekend. Nice to have everyone together for possibly the last time…. Unfortunately my mom had a hard time with that. She was confused about who was who and seemed to think that both my sister and my daughter were me and she wasn’t sure at all who I was. But she seemed to enjoy the change of pace from her assisted living home.
The golfers in the family golfed in the morning while the others stayed at the “cabin” and watched over mom. Then we got to go in the afternoon – Kaylee and I chose to get a mani/pedi at the spa. It was quite nice. Then we went to the main lodge and had lunch. We had a great time together.
All in all, it went a lot better than I expected. My mom is getting worse as far as dementia, but at least she seems to be in a happier place than she was a year ago.
I was over the moon after the trial this weekend. Tally can do it. It was just a matter of getting him to learn to stay calm and not get overly excited. Neutering probably didn’t hurt either. Of course the standard course was a hot mess, but a Q nonetheless. We still have a ways to go, but keeping all the bars up is huge. Huge, I tells ya. His sister Rickki was at the trial, what a gorgeous, gorgeous dog. I wish I had pics of them together. We took them for a walk out in the field and it was so funny to see the dynamic of them together. Tally was the rougher player, but Rickki was the more adventurous. Rickki would take off to places where Tally would never normally venture, Rickki would look back over her shoulder like “you’re coming with me, aren’t you”. Tally would be obviously torn between being a good dog and going with her, then he would go. So fun. Hope to see more of Rickki over the summer.
Started my new job last week. Stressful, but I think it will be a good fit. I have a huge cubicle/office which is kind of embarrassing, but very cool. So far, it is fun to keep busy all day and not have loads of boring down time to try to fill. I am sure that will get old fast. ha ha
